Today (October 29th) the College of Eastern Utah Student Association will be hosting Spooktacular, an event geared for children and the community, from 6-10 p.m. in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center.

If you strolled by the College of Eastern Utah’s Library Pit, Oct. 7, at 5:30 p.m., you probably saw about 50 GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Progams) students and their parents enjoying a barbecue provided by CEU Catering. You probably also noticed Carbon Recreation’s climbing wall being scaled by several of these students.

College of Eastern Utah student enrollment for the fall 2009 semester increased 91 students over last year’s third week report. More importantly, the full-time equivalents (students taking 15-credit hours) increased 174 over last year, which is an increase of over 12.9 percent.

College of Eastern Utah is hosting its 11th annual “Bread ‘N Soup Night” beginning Monday, Nov. 2 and continuing each Monday through Nov. 23. The event runs from 5-6:30 p.m., and held in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center. All proceeds from the event are donated to the Carbon County Food Bank.

Volleyball defeats no. 3 team in country

History was made for the College of Eastern Utah volleyball team last weekend. For the first time in school history, the CEU Golden Eagles defeated the College of Southern Idaho Eagles. Besides CSI, the laldy Eagles also took on Snow College, Salt Lake Community College and North Idaho College during the past two weekends.

Our administration campaigned on a platform proclaiming the need for change. The changes are happening, albeit slowly, but the changes implemented are treatments of the symptoms, not the disease. In order to treat the disease, the United States must make changes to our version of democracy.

While watching the news a few weeks ago, I was surprised to see President Barack Obama speaking of his “honor and gratitude” for receiving the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. I am not saying that I was surprised because he is a “bad president” but because he is the first president to receive the Nobel Peace Prize his first year in office.

President Albrecht and several of his cabinet members visited campus Oct. 21 to discuss the issues committees’ work between the two schools. The USU president met in an all-campus meeting to discuss the progress of the Memorandum of Understanding document.
